Southern Oregon’s first clubhouse for people struggling with mental illness held its grand opening Wednesday.

The Compass House offers a place of safety, belonging and empowerment. It’s on sixth street in Medford and also serves as a resource center.

Matthew Vorderstrasse is the Compass House’s Executive Director says, “Through the clubhouse model we deal with employment and educations but also help people build that support network for themselves. Studies show there’s a high rate of employment coming out of clubhouses.”

Program organizers say they hope Compass House will serve as a safety net for people in the community who weren’t able to get help before.
