Unity Center nurses get go-ahead for union election

Legacy issued the following statement:

“We disagree with this ruling and intend to appeal the decision. We remain steadfast in our position that Unity Center is part of Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, as evidenced by the Joint Commission survey at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, Unity Center and Randall Children’s Hospital currently underway this week. We value our employees and the opportunity to speak directly with them on all matters related to the care of our patients.”

Sarah Mittleman, a psychiatric emergency nurse for Unity who attended the NLRB hearing May 23, said she isn’t surprised by Legacy’s lack of cooperation with the nurses’ wishes.

“They don’t seem to value our opinion as nurses,” she said. “So why would that be any different when we organize?”
