Suicidal woman says two deputies were calming her down when a third shot her

From The Oregonian, July 26, 2010

When Mary Joanne Diershaw called 9-1-1 early in the morning of July 1, she wanted to die.

Once online with a Washington County 9-1-1 operator, Diershaw said she planned to kill a girl. But the 50-year-old’s intention was suicide by cop.

“I said something really stupid — that I had a gun and that I was going to kill a girl, and the girl I meant was me,” she said in a telephone interview Thursday. “Then, I went outside and waited for them.”

Washington County sheriff’s deputies responded to her Aloha apartment complex, 875 S.W. 185th Ave., at 2:34 a.m. Authorities say Diershaw refused to comply with deputies’ commands to show her right hand, which they say was tucked into her coat.
