Superintendent Roy Orr disputes assertion of a lack of urgency
Oregon State Hospital Superintendent Roy Orr said Tuesday that he didn’t become aware of a recent report critical of hospital management until it appeared in the press.
“I only learned of that report this morning,” Orr told the Statesman Journal Editorial Board. “To be clear, Judge Hargreaves never worked for me or the state hospital. He reported to the governor, so I was never privy to the reports, oral or written, that he made to the governor.”
Former judge James Hargreaves spent a year tracking hospital reforms at the behest of Gov. Ted Kulongoski.
Hargreaves said in his final report, dated Feb. 23 and released this week, that the facility has made progress. But he also asserted that hospital managers lacked urgency and showed little understanding about the need for planning and goals.
Orr said he learned about the report just before meeting with the newspaper’s editorial board.
